Richard Schnap- A Poem

READING

There was the soldier who once had been
A gang member on a ghetto’s streets
Who now wouldn’t even swear

And the woman with the foreign accent
Who never revealed her last name
Whose past was a dark mystery

And the rabbi who’d lived in Israel
During the 1973 Yom Kippur war
Each poem a cantorial chant

And the little girl who spoke of
A world ruled by peace and love
Her voice like a bird’s in the night
