Brittany Zedalis- Three Poems

Serenity

I long for the soft swaying of the boat,
the calls of howlers nearby, signaling the
oncoming of another heat-ridden shower,
a sweet taste of red wine on my lips
while I watch as he stands on the bow,
the wind brushing hair from his eyes
as the rain begins to trickle down,
a nearby camel rushes for cover
beneath its sturdy shelter, and I wonder
if this is what peace feels like

Where the World Ends

you take me
to the end of the earth
where oceans crash and
mountains tower,
there is a glint in your eyes
as you take my hand and
face towards
the endless sky

What It Means

The loss of a mother means
going from laughter and smiles
to gut wrenching sobs in
five seconds flat, it means
one less stocking hanging up
on Christmas day, an empty chair
and dust covered glasses, the
abandoned teddy bear surrounded
by loose change and crumpled
dollar bills, it means a gaping
indention in an old white pillow,
and tear drops falling on a
once cherished bible
