J.J. Campbell- Three Poems

a bottle and a spoon

soft lips
and a cold
embrace

from
a woman
who has
chased all
her fears
with a
bottle
and a
spoon

i can sense
that you're
not sure i
won't just
be the next
one to fuck
you over

here's where
i'm different
from all the
other ones

i'll never
promise
you i'm
not

these listless bones

faint whispers
of hope fall
on deaf ears

spread your
sadness on
whole wheat
bread

depressions
doesn't
mean you
can't watch
your calories

though that's
hardly likely

these listless
bones have
seen better
days

yet another
sunset that
isn't a fire

the freaks
don't even
bother with
this part of
town

ignorance is truly bliss

wash your hands of
your sins and pretend
that ignorance is
truly bliss

it's the quickest way
to success

J.J. Campbell is old enough that his back hurts each time it rains. He's been widely published in the small press, most recently at The Camel Saloon, ZYX, Raw Dog Press, Hobo Camp Review, and Pyrokinection. His latest collection, Sofisticated White Trash (Interior Noise Press), would make a great Christmas gift for a loved one. Find it wherever you happen to buy books these days. You'll find J.J. most days bitching about something only he cares about on his blog, evil delights. (http://evildelights.blogspot.com)
